Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on October 28, 1967 at Atlanta. Her grandfather, her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer who was also the first Roberts who settled in Atlanta. Early on, her father started to be interested in the theater. When he was a student of Emory University, he performed at several shows in Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953 and, while stationed in Biloxi Mississippi, was a part of an military production starring Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the air force. The two married in 1955. Their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In the year 1957, they quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane. In 1960, the family relocated in Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964 Walter as well as Betty Lou began production on an on-sunday morning local children's television program called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed themselves. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year, which lasted six years. They welcomed in 1965 two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley as well as Julia Billingsley.
